58% increase in seating capacity in Keflavik airport's winter schedule

Iceland‘s gateway, Keflavik International Airport‘s winter schedule has never before been as busy as the 2016/2017 winter schedule proposes. A total of 14 airlines will fly to 57 destinations with a 58.3 per cent rise in seating capacity over last winter, a record number of more than 3 million seats. Compared to recent years, the number of seats in the coming winter schedule is higher than in the 2013 summer schedule and higher than the total number of seats for all of 2011.

Seasonality reduced with incentives and strategic marketing

Winter tourism in Iceland has increased rapidly as visitors venture to experience northern lights and other winter activities. Strategic marketing and Isavia‘s incentives, which give airlines with new destinations in the winter season significant discounts on airport charges, help to strengthen business opportunities for Icelandic service providers. Increased number of airlines flying to Iceland during the winter time with more destinations and competition also results in lower fares.
