Isavia won the IHS Jane’s Award for ADS-B

Isavia, received the IHS Jane’s Airport Review’s annual award in the Service Provision category, for extending ADS-B coverage in the Icelandic Control Area to provide contiguous surveillance from stations in Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. With ADS-B Isavia now provides unified operational surveillance coverage in the Reykjavik Control Area, introducing an improved service, reduced cost and environmental benefits.

ADS-B ground stations in Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands now create a transatlantic surveillance corridor, connecting Europe and North America. The new equipment precisely calculates aircraft positions and are typically updated much more frequently than conventional radar links. This allows a reduction of aircraft separation from 50-120 NM to 10 NM and aircraft to cross the ocean at or closer to the optimum flight level, resulting in increased safety and efficiency with reduced fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
