Þórshöfn Airport is located 3km north of the village of Þórshöfn on the Langanes peninsula in north-east Iceland. Norlandair operates scheduled flights between Þórshöfn and Akureyri Airport five times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Through a partnership between Norlandair and Air Iceland Connect, flights can be booked from Reykjavík to Þórshöfn with a layover at Akureyri. For further details, please visit the airlines’ websites at www.norlandair.is and/or www.airicelandconnect.com/.
AT THE AIRPORT
We recommend that you arrive at the airport well in advance of departure to avoid queues and so that the airline can keep on schedule. Arriving about 60 minutes before your take-off is a good rule of thumb for this airport.
The check-in is at the terminal. Air Iceland Connect also offers online check-in at www.airicelandconnect.is. Passengers are reminded to always bring identity documents (ID).
The heart of Þórshöfn beats in time to the waves, and fishing and fish processing have been the town's main form of occupation throughout the years. Therefore, it is interesting to go for a walk, take a look at harbour life and activity, then perhaps look into the restaurant Báran, and sample their excellent soup made from ocean quahog (Arctica islandica). Fishing for ocean quahog is one of the many things which set Þórshöfn apart from other villages.
Þórshöfn offers excellent services; a health centre, shop, restaurant, a sports stadium, swimming pool, savings bank, petrol station etc. There is also a camping site with facilities for camper vans.
