605 thousand guests in March

The month of March capped a particularly good end to the winter season. A total of 604,697 guests made their way through KEF in March. That is a 24% increase from the same period last year.

A total of 21 airlines, both international and Icelandic, flew to 63 destinations. The most popular destinations were London, Copenhagen, New York, Paris, and Amsterdam.

The busiest day of March was the 24th of March when 25,698 guests went through the airport.

According to the Icelandic Tourist Board, last March saw 56,400 departures of Icelanders which is a 42% from the same month last year. To some extent, this increase in numbers can be attributed to the Easter holiday, one of the most popular travel weekends for Icelanders, which was in March this year compared to April the year before.

The departures of foreign guests from the country via KEF were 173 thousand in March. A similar number of departures were measured in the record year 2018. Majority of those departures were US (22%) and British (20%) travellers, followed by Chinese (5%), Italian (5%), and French (5%) travellers.

KEF’s summer season stars in April, and by the looks of it this summer will be busy and fun at the airport this year.
