ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ISAVIA REGARDING WOW AIR

In the early hours of the morning of Thursday the 28th of March 2019, Isavia received information that WOW air’s aircraft would not be leaving the USA for Keflavík Airport in Iceland. Isavia, therefore, employed the provisions of Article 136 of the Icelandic Aviation Act on WOW air’s aircraft situated in Keflavík Airport as collateral for unpaid fees. Isavia is allowed to prevent an aircraft from taking off until such time as all fees for the aircraft in question or other operations of the owner or user of the aircraft have been paid or security has been posted for such payment.

Isavia heavily regrets that WOW air is no longer operating, as the airline has flown many passengers to and from Keflavík Airport for the past seven years and has been an important part in the airport’s success and a major part of the tourism industry in Iceland.

It is evident that the departure of WOW air will have an influence on the airport’s operation. Isavia will be examining the extent of the consequences that WOW air’s withdrawal may have.

Isavia’s staff will assist WOW air’s passengers as much as possible over the next few days.
