Drone ban near Grindavík

Due to a possible volcanic eruption near the town of Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula of Iceland the Icelandic Transport Authority, at the request of the Suðurnes Police Commissioner, has issued a ban on drone flights and VFR (Visual Flight Rules) in the vicinity of the town. The coordinate of the prohibited area are as follows:

According to information from the Suðurnes Police Commissioner the drone ban in the area is in place to secure scope for unhindered scientific flights and possible measure that might be needed to be taken at short notice. The ban is in place in accordance with regulation 990/2017. The ban does not take to drone flights by the National Police Commissioner´s Office or The Icelandic Coast Guard. The ban has already come into effect and will be valid till Midnight on November 29th, 2023.
