Isavia receives ISO 14001 environmental certification
Recently Isavia received the ISO 14001 environmental certification. With the implementation of this comprehensive environmental management standard, environmental aspects of the company’s operations were identified, monitoring and control were established for each of them and objectives were set to reduce negative environmental impact.
“Monitoring of environmental aspects related to Isavia’s operations is an integral part of the company’s operations,” says Hrönn Ingólfsdóttir, Director of Corporate Strategy and Sustainability at Isavia. “The environmental management system forms a comprehensive framework for these aspects, thereby minimising the risk of a negative environmental impact from Isavia’s operations.”
The implementation of the ISO 14001 environmental management standard is a very demanding process for all companies, especially those with extensive and complex operations. “Such an implementation involves employees at all levels, and everyone must contribute in order to achieve the greatest possible results for the company and the community. I want to thank Isavia’s diligent staff for the good results we have achieved in environmental issues,” says Hrönn.
“Isavia has set itself ambitious objectives regarding sustainability, and an active environmental management system is a very good way to work on them constantly,” says Sveinbjörn Indriðason, CEO of Isavia. “This new certification ensures that we do not lose sight of our clear objectives. We work in a systematic way to continuously improve on environmental issues. The objective is for our operations at Keflavík Airport to be Net Zero by 2030.”
“It is very important for Isavia to have a certified environmental management system. The ISO 14001 certification covers not only Isavia’s current operations but also the current construction work at Keflavík Airport,” says Hrönn Ingólfsdóttir. “The certification is yet another confirmation that Isavia places great emphasis on sustainability in its operations.”
