Sbarro opens at Keflavik Airport

The American pizzeria chain Sbarro has opened a restaurant at Keflavik Airport. This is a so-called pop-up space located in the shopping and restaurant section which will be opened temporarily at the airport. A selection of freshly baked New York pizzas, pasta dishes and breakfast will be served at the restaurant.

Isavia recently advertised free pop-up spaces in search of businesses to run a restaurant in the south building of Keflavik Airport. The space is in the waiting area for passengers travelling to North America and the United Kingdom for example. Many of those passengers are connecting passengers who spend an average of one hour in the terminal, and therefore a great emphasis was placed on service speed, quality, and well-known products in the selection of caterers.

“Sbarro’s opening has exceeded our expectations and we have experienced great customer satisfaction with the restaurant,” says Gunnhildur Erla Vilbergsdóttir, Commercial Manager at Keflavik Airport. “We are preparing for one of our largest summers at Keflavik Airport and in the transit area we will experience great rush hours for connecting passengers. Therefore, Sbarro will fit greatly into the restaurant flora by providing a well-known brand, good quality products and great speed.”

The number of passengers has increased in the last few months, and Keflavik Airport is one of the few airports in the world who has fully recovered the number of passengers since the pandemic. Isavia’s passenger forecast predicts that 7.8 million passengers will go through Keflavik Airport in 2023, which would be the third largest number of passengers at the airport since it opened.

The Sbarro restaurant will be open for one year on the first floor of the south building at Keflavik Airport and will serve passengers travelling from countries outside of the Schengen area. Sbarro also a branch open at 10-11 convenience store in the arrival hall of Keflavik Airport.
