Traffic record expected at Keflavik International Airport

Keflavik International Airport expects record flight operations this summer. Scheduled and charter operators’ route networks will be expanded significantly with a number of new destinations. Two new airlines have added Keflavik International as an all year destination.

The summer season brings great increase in traffic at Keflavik International, the principal Iceland destination airport serving the capital city, Reykjavík.  Last year, 18 to 20 passenger flights were processed during the daily short morning and afternoon rush. This number will increase to 23 this summer with 15,000 passengers going through the Leif Eriksson Terminal daily during high season in June, July and August.

Terminal facility improvements will commence shortly to meet the increased traffic and add to passenger comfort at Keflavik. Airport authorities, airlines and ground handlers all work diligently on integrated solutions to expedite handling and to make the passengers’ experience as pleasant as possible.
