Isafjordur Airport has one of the world‘s most scenic approaches

Isafjordur Airport located in the Icelandic Westfjords made it to PrivateFly‘s shortlist for the most Scenic Airport Approaches. Only twelve other European airports made it to the list. Voting is open to all until March 15, 2020.

Departure from Isafjordur Airport

Isafjordur Airport has often been mentioned in the media for a unique approach. The airport is located by the sea in a narrow fjord, surrounded by high and steep mountains. Upon approach towards runway 08, the pilot first has to fly by the mountainside, over Isafjordur town, towards the bottom of the fjord, then make a 180 degree left towards the runway, which is located by the base of another mountain on the other side of the fjord.

Every year the readers of PrivateFly.com choose the most scenic approach in six regional categories: Europe; North America; Central and South America and the Caribbean; Asia; Africa and The Middle East; and Australasia. This year 74 airport approaches made it to the shortlist, ranging from iconic cityscapes, to island and coastal approaches, to mountain top runways.

Voting is open until March 15, 2020, and we encourage everyone to choose which airport approach they find the most scenic.
